World T’ai Chi & Qigong Day

On Saturday, April 28, 2007, Irvine Valley College (IVC) will host its seventh annual World T’ai Chi & Qigong Day as part of a global simultaneous celebration to unite with people around the world in promoting global health. At 10 a.m., on this day, IVC organizers expect more than 200 local residents to join in group T’ai Chi and Qigong, to draw attention to the profound, yet vastly underutilized healing benefits of the ancient arts of taiji and qigong (also known as “t’ai chi” and “chi kung”).
In 1999, the first World T’ai Chi & Qigong Day had 108 events that took place all over the world. World T’ai Chi and Qigong day events have been held on the grounds of the United Nations in New York and on the Capitol Mall in Washington, DC. This year even more events will take place with greater participation than ever before.
Irvine Valley College invites the general public to come and learn about T’ai Chi and Qigong, and to meet the people who practice and teach these Chinese health and wellness exercises. Several different teachers will take part in leading and demonstrating various styles of t’ai chi and qigong.
Various teachers will lead simple, easy to follow exercises in qigong, t’ai chi, and acupressure self-massage. Interspersed throughout the morning will be demonstrations of different styles of tai chi and qigong. Everyone is invited to participate in the main event: a group exhibition of t’ai chi and qigong beginning at 10 a.m.. Even those who don’t know how can try to follow along. The public is encouraged to participate and join in the experience, and find out about classes they can take.
