Emeritus Institute offers new schedule
May 26, 2006
The college Emeritus Institute is offering a schedule of classes for the first time this summer. Classes are now available for
older adults or persons of any age interested in dance, music, fitness, art, computers, and other areas of learning. The
schedule may be obtained at the college or online at www.ivc.edu/emeritus/.
Emeritus courses, which are held both on campus and at off-campus sites, do not require homework or testing, and students often work at their own pace. Classes are free, although some may require nominal materials fees. Students need only pay a one-time $45 application fee, and on-campus classes require an $11 health fee. Classes taken for credit are $26 per unit.
According to Emeritus Institute Director David Anderson, the new printed schedule was developed with adult students in mind.
“Emeritus means ‘retired with honor.’ Our classes provide older adults personal, social, cultural, economic and environmental benefits that have a positive impact on their daily lives,” he said.
The new class schedule was created in order to make information about the Emeritus Institute more accessible. The classes are meant to enhance creative self-expression, increase health and stamina, stimulate the learning process, and help build self-confidence and self-competence.
The Emeritus Summer session runs May 22-August 11. Students may register online or in-person at the Emeritus Office in the A-100 Building, or by telephone at (949) 451-5382.
