Commencement Ceremony May 9

More than 500 students will be awarded associate degrees at the college’s 21st annual commencement ceremony at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 19, in the Student Services Center Quad. One hundred ninety-six students will receive associates in arts degrees, 22 will receive associates in science degrees. Approximately 300 other students will be candidates to receive their degrees upon completion of approved coursework in 2006.
During the ceremony, the college will also acknowledge students who complete its popular certificate programs. This year, 110 students will be awarded certificates in the technological, applied, and business sciences.
Wing Lam, the founder of Yahoo’s Fish Tacos, will make the keynote address. Full-time Teacher of the Year Peter Morrison, and Part-time Teacher of the Year James Granitto, will also be acknowledged. And for the first time, the college will present an award to the Outstanding Part-time Emeritus Faculty Member of the Year. The award’s first recipient is 93-year-old dance teacher Eva Garnet, a graduate of the Juilliard School
of Music and Dance. Garnet has over 75 years experience in performing, teaching, directing and choreography. She has been with the South Orange County Community College District since 1991.
The Van Houten Brass Ensemble will also perform.
