Students take top video award
May 2, 2006
Two Irvine Valley College students were winners at the 1st Annual California Community Colleges Satellite Network (CCCSAT) Student Film and Video Festival in March at Palomar College in San Marcos.
Nancy Luster and Wendell Chong took first place in the commercial/promo/PSA category for their production “The Beat of IV," and second place in the same category for “The Adventures of Trip & Zip.” Luster also won third place for her production “Me and My Dad” in the documentary/interview category. She used vintage home movie footage of her father and interviewed him to create the piece as a tribute on his 80th birthday.
Luster and Chong produced the projects as part of a Digital Sound and Video class. Their instructor, Sonya Bangston, who is a video production specialist at IVC, acted as their faculty advisor and submitted the entries on the students’ behalf. Thirteen community colleges submitted works in seven different categories. Winning students received plaques and a software prize package.
