Honors students receive awards

Student Erit Maor received an award for scholarly research at Building Bridges: The 6th Annual Research Conference for

California Community Colleges, March 4, at the University of California, Irvine.

Maor, whose abstract “Artificial Intelligence: It’s All Relative” postulates a social construction of intelligence based on a “paradigm of multiple realities” and varying definitions of intelligence, won the UCI Award for Abstract, and $500.

Abstracts presented by other Irvine Valley students included: “Youth Gambling: Beneficial or Detrimental?” by Alicia Cota; “Effects of Genetic Engineering,” by Sze Ming Leung; “The Crystal Frontier,” by Mariana Salinas; “Adolescent Coping: Magnet School versus Public School, Iran,” by Shahriar SheikiBahaei; and “e-Clips” by Sara Tavakoli.

Honors student Alana Dauphinee received an Outstanding Honors Student award, and $250, for her efforts as past president of the Alpha Omega Mu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at the college.

Building Bridges is presented each year by the Honors Transfer Council of California. The HTCC represents 40 community colleges to negotiate special transfer agreements between two-year college honors or scholars' programs and four-year colleges and universities throughout the state. The HTCC sponsors the annual research conference to give students in community college honors programs the opportunity to


present the results of their scholarly work.The Irvine Valley Honors Program is directed by Professor Dottie Sherling. She also serves as HTCC treasurer. For more information, contact Sherling at (949) 451-5433.
