April is Community College MonthMarch 10, 2006
Community colleges serve a unique higher education mission -- to provide affordable access to college to increase the educational opportunities of the population and to provide workforce training in partnership with business and industry to ensure a highly skilled, competitive workforce.
As part of its Community College Month activities, Irvine Valley will hold the following events:
- Spring Concert IVC’s Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, Sunday, April 23, 4 p.m. Co-sponsored by the City of Irvine in honor or Irvine’s 35th Anniversary. Free.
- Earth Day, Monday, April 24, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Recycling opportunities, vendors and exhibits, free massages. Sponsored by the Associated Students of IVC. Free.
- Foundation Awards Dinner, Tuesday, April 25, 6 p.m., at Joe’s Garage Automotive Museum. Guest speaker will be Huell Howser, host of California’s Gold on PBS. Funds raised will provide scholarships for students. Call (949) 451-5290. Sponsored by the Irvine Valley College Foundation.
- IVC Job Fair, Thursday, April 27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Over 25 employers will be recruiting for open employment positions. - World T’ai C’hi Day, Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m.-1p.m. Demonstrations and participatory exercises in various tai chi and qigong styles, for overall improvement of health and wellness. Free.
