Anonymous donor makes $50k gift
January 3, 2006
The Irvine Valley College Wind Symphony received a $50,000 donation from an anonymous donor in December.
The donation, which was made through the Irvine Valley College Foundation, will be used to purchase instruments, instructional materials, and to fund performances by the symphony, band orchestras, and other groups throughout the year. From the donation, $10,000 will be placed in an endowment to support other college instrumental music programs.
According to Dr. Stephen Rochford, a music professor at the college and conductor of the Wind Symphony, the donor contributes to the college “because of the symphony’s local reputation and influence, and because the donor takes pride in supporting small music programs such as ours.”
In addition to his teaching duties, Rochford conducts several of the college’s orchestras and is one of the district’s leading fundraisers.
