Chorale performs at Carnegie Hall
June 20, 2005
Fifteen students from the Irvine Valley Masterworks Chorale performed the Fauré Requiem at Carnegie Hall on May 31 in the Issac Stern Auditorium.
The students sang as part of the New York City Chamber Orchestra and Festival Chorus, joining 200 other students who were invited from around the country to sing the 19th-century work by French organist and composer Gabriel Fauré. Bruce Rogers, the director of choral activities at Mt. San Antonio College, conducted.
Professor Janice Wyma, the long-time director of the Irvine Valley College chorale, spent three months to prepare the group for the performance. The students: Karen Goldsluss, Patrick L. Healey, Vicki Hood, Lesley Householder, Steve Jacks, Ruth Larsen, Nancy Liming, Candice Mathis, Megan Pace, Mary Ann Perdue, Chikayo Rattee, Mei Schirmer, and Lili Wu, were accompanied by Wyma and music professor Dean Shepherd.
