Honors students build bridges with research papers

May 2, 2005

Seventeen Irvine Valley honors students attended the Fifth Annual Building Bridges Undergraduate Research Conference for California Community Colleges at the University of California, Irvine, on March 5. Six students presented research papers at the conference, which showcases student scholarship and reinforces the transfer process between community colleges and the University of California. Abstracts of the students’ papers will be published and distributed to two- and four-year colleges nationwide. The research included:

  • “Beyond Skin Deep: Expressing Identity through Body Decoration" by Debra Thiercof.
  • “Abdominal Cadaver Dissection” by Sara Honari.
  • “International Relations in Hegemonic Monopolarchies and Multi-Monopolarchic Systems” by Kelly Burner.
  • “The Failure of Mexican-American Youth in Higher Education” by Frank Gonzalez.
  • “Exploring the Human Orbital Region” by Yen-Po Kzang.
  • “The Collapse of Our Nation's Economy: Revolving Credit Card Debt” by Li Li Hu.

Eleven students participated in the conference as facilitators for the student presenters. Student Joshua Isaacs received a $200 scholarship from the Honors Transfer Council of California (HTCC), which sponsored the conference.
