Emeritus Institute Hits Milestone
Over 4,000 students were registered in Emeritus classes last semester, a new record. According to David Anderson, Jr., Director of the Emeritus Institute, Community and Contract Education, the boost in enrollment is due in part to adding new courses that better meet the students’ needs.
“The residents of Irvine and around the south Orange County continue to be at the forefront in embracing new services, and the demand for these programs only grows,” said Anderson.
“We’re offering the subjects and activities that our community demands, including painting, bird watching, country line dancing, computers, yoga, theater, chair aerobics, and so much more. It’s important that we keep up with an active population,” he added.
Anderson stresses that Emeritus classes are developed to provide older adults personal, social, economic, and environmental benefits that have a positive impact on their daily lives. Most classes are held at sites chosen for their convenience and are located where demand is high: Irvine, Laguna Beach, Lake Forest, and Tustin. The programs are often available at no charge.
The college now offers and improved registration process to meet the needs of older students. Registration is available now. Classes begin on May 23. For more information or to obtain a class schedule, call (949) 451-5382 or (949) 451-5226.
