Astounding Inventors appear on The Tonight Show
April 4, 2005
Three students who competed this year in Irvine Valley College’s Astounding Inventions were featured guests on The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
The students—two from Irvine Unified School District and one from Tustin Unified School District—were interviewed by
Leno and demonstrated their inventions in what turned out to be a hilarious comedy bit.
After a live afternoon taping on March 4, the show was broadcast that same evening at 11:35 p.m. on NBC. The television
appearance of these students capped what has been a very successful Astounding Inventions 2004.
In January, 356 students in grades K-8 submitted inventions for IVC’s 17th annual competition. Students in each grade level
with the best inventions were awarded blue ribbons and $100 U.S. Savings Bonds: 76 students got blue ribbons; seventy-
seven students got red ribbons and $50 U.S. Savings Bonds; and 73 students received honorable mentions.
