Professor Debuts Music Composition in D.C.
Music Professor Daniel Luzko's composition "Korean Memorial: Music in the Time of War" will have its premiere performance at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., on April 16. Luzko was commissioned to write the piece as part the Catholic University's "President's Concert," which promotes music written during or following wartime. The piece will later be performed at Washington's Kennedy Center on June 6.
Luzko's composition was written for violin, viola and cello with four voices: soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and baritone. It is one of 19 works by different composers who were commissioned by the university for the event. Each composer used one the 19 life-size bronze soldiers that make up the Korean War Memorial as an inspiration for a two-minute composition to be featured individually as part of larger performance. The memorial is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Luzko is a Paraguayan composer and pianist whose works have been performed throughout the Americas and Europe and he is the recipient of numerous international music awards. Luzko has taught music at IVC since 1999.
