Art instructor to address N.Y. symposium

Art History instructor Thomas Folland will present a paper at Museum of Modern Art’s First Annual Graduate Symposium on Modern and Contemporary Art, in New York on Friday, April 8. Folland, who is recognized as an emerging art scholar, will present “Another Modernism: Re-thinking the 1930’s and its Postmodern Critque.”

Folland will make his presentation as part of MoMA’s first annual graduate symposium, “When Was Modern Art? A Contemporary Question,” which investigates past and present


interpretations of modern arts’ beginning in written histories, museum displays and artworks. He will be one of six scholars to present papers that examine the history of modern art and its role in defining a movement that is distinct from contemporary art. He is also a graduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles.
