Grant promotes pre-school teachers' program
March 4, 2005
The Supportive Services Program was awarded a $31,335 grant in February to provide instruction and mentoring for Irvine Valley students who want to enter the field of childhood education. The grant provides funds for supplemental instruction, tutoring, emergency transportation, licensing, books and other support necessary for up to 15 students enrolled in CalWORKs, a state program designed in part to train students in job-readiness skills through approved vocational and work-study programs at IVC. The grant was made possible by the Foundation for the California Community Colleges. Additional funds were also made available to CalWORKs students to receive hourly pay for their work-study commitments at childcare facilities in the area.
