th Annual Astounding Inventions Competition raised over $22,000 in January, a
new record. Astounding Inventions was conceived as a contest to foster an interest in science, mathematics and
technology among elementary and middle school students in the Irvine and Tustin Unified School Districts, and to raise
funds for the Irvine Valley College Foundation. The funds are used each year to provide programs, services, and
scholarships to Irvine Valley College students. Irvine Valley awards an average of $120,000 in scholarships annually.
Students receive scholarships based on several criteria including grade point average, chosen field of study, and financial
need. Many receive more than one scholarship. The Astounding Inventions Competition is one of several yearly events
Irvine Valley hosts to raise funds in support of students.
