Irvine Valley reaccreditation by W.A.S.C.

February 21, 2005

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) reaffirmed Irvine Valley’s accreditation for another six years in February. A visiting accreditation team validated the integrity of the school’s programs and services and re-certified Irvine Valley as an institution of higher learning. Irvine Valley College has been fully accredited since it became an independent college in 1985. It was created in 1979 as a sister campus to Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.

The commission commended the college for its exemplary teaching, use of technology, special services, theater/music programs, honors program, emeritus program, distance learning and international center.

The eleven-member accreditation team, which visited the college in October, noted a demonstrable commitment to “high quality teaching and learning, and a commitment by the faculty and staff to provide quality instruction, student support services, and learning resources.”

According to IVC President Glenn Roquemore, the accrediting commission’s report substantiates the college’s institutional effectiveness.

“The team found that our students hold our instructors and support staff in high regard, and that we meet or exceed the requirements that are mandated for us. This accreditation report

assures that this school’s objectives and purposes are proper and fitting for the communities we serve, and that we provide a viable educational program for our students,” said Roquemore.

In preparation for the accrediting team’s visit, college administrators and governance leaders worked together to prepare an institutional self-study, which was developed over the previous two years to assess IVC’s strengths and areas needing improvement. The study enlarges and clarifies the school’s goals, student success and campus wide accomplishments.

“We are extremely proud of our college—our faculty and staff—for the excellent self study report they provided. They have reaffirmed this college’s reputation as an outstanding educational resource in the community,” Roquemore added.

The WASC Accrediting Commission evaluated Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College concurrently in 2004. Both colleges were fully reaccredited in 2005.
