Student inventors to appear on The Tonight Show

February 21, 2005

Three students who competed this year in Irvine Valley College’s Astounding Inventions on January 31 will be featured

guests on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The students—two from Irvine and one from Tustin Unified School District—

will be interviewed by Jay Leno and will demonstrate their inventions during a live taping of the show on Thursday, March

4. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno airs at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.

The television appearance by the students caps what has been a very successful Astounding Inventions 2004. In

January, 356 students in grades K-8 submitted inventions for IVC’s 17th annual competition. Students with the best

inventions in each grade level were awarded blue ribbons and $100 U.S. Savings Bonds: 76 students received blue

ribbons; 77 students received red ribbons and $50 U.S. Savings Bonds; and 73 students received honorable mentions.

The three students who will appear on The Tonight Show were blue ribbon winners and received prizes of $100 U.S.

Savings Bonds.

The students are: Joseph Chen, Vista Verde Elementary, ISUD, 2nd Grade, for  “The Unique Cereal Bowl.”
Anthony Lucido,  Peters Canyon Elementary, TUSD, 5th Grade,  for  “The Shaky Wake”
Haley Rogers, Vista Verde Elementary, IUSD,  5th Grade,  “Pick Me 3000”
