Ceremony celebrates Arts Center groundbreaking
September 3, 2004
IVC will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 11 A.M. to kick off construction of its new $22,587,000 Performing Arts Center. The public is invited to attend the ceremony which will take place at the building site near the southeast corner of the IVC Library. Parking is free.
The new Irvine Valley College Performing Arts Center will offer students and the community a comprehensive learning environment with theater, vocal and instrumental programs. The center will also provide a public venue for civic meetings, workshops and community education programs. With 33,000 square-feet and seating for 400, the center will dwarf IVC’s aging and over-utilized 1,594 square-foot Forum Theater, which currently seats only 60 and serves as both an acting lab and classroom. The new facility will free the Forum Theater for other instructional purposes.
The new Performing Arts Center will include main level and balcony seating, an orchestra pit, food services, and will be fully accessible to persons with disabilities. Additional theater support areas include dressing rooms, a costume shop and scene shop. Nearly 30,000 square feet will be dedicated to the theater and instruction, including nearly 6,000 square feet of laboratory space. Office space also will be provided for the faculty. IVC’s Performing Arts Center will provide outstanding educational and performance opportunities in a state-of-the-art facility for residents throughout Southern Orange County.
