Irvine Valley Students Turn Quarter Life Crisis
into An Evening of Comedy
Irvine, CAAll over America students finish their college years
and laugh, for they are now fully-independent adults; but they cant
find a job, are eating ramen twice a day, and have learned that the
only thing they know about the opposite sex is they probably will
never understand them. Its this natural stage of development from
which IVC drama students have spray painted a show of gut-busting
scenes and laugh-along songs.
An Evening of Comedy: The Quarter Life Crisis opens at Irvine
Valley College on May 2 and runs May 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m., and
on May 4 and 11 at 2 p.m. General admission is $12, students with
proper I.D. and seniors, $11. For more information call the Forum
Theatre Box Office at (949) 451-5333.
The show takes a tour of twenty-somethings with a contemporary
flair, showcasing scenes that offer something for everybody. Styles
range from Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, to the grand will of one
mind listening to the world in search of the perfect bread, with
spins on cell phones, consumer awareness, pick-up lines, and coffee
shop madness--it will definitely find time to tickle your special
spot.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the student-directed
production at IVC and for the occasion, regular resident Paul Burt
(Imaginary Invalid, Fiorello, You Cant take it with you, etc) has
returned to direct his fifth show at IVC. For the project he called
on some former students; Dave Herbelin who went on from IVC to work
with 2nd City Improv Group and Todd Hoskins who has made appearances
at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Both contributed scenes for the
show. Plus Orange County playwright Johnna Adams, whose play
Cockfighters was awarded "Orange County's Best New Play 2002" by OC
Weekly, has offered her comical short How to Suck a Million Toes
Without Being Electrocuted Once.
The talent also runs deep with some of the best new actors at the
college along with a monkey barrel-full of IVC theatre veterans. At
less than an hour and twenty minutes, this show is sure to keep you
laughing till Tuesday.
