Irvine Valley Appoints Interim President
IRVINE, CA - Dr. Glenn R. Roquemore has been appointed the
interim president of Irvine Valley College. Roquemore began his
term February 25, succeeding Raghu P. Mathur, who has served as
president for five years. Mathur was appointed Chancellor of the
South Orange County Community College District on February 1.
Roquemore previously served as Vice President of Instruction at
Irvine Valley College, a position he has held since 1999. Since
1997, Roquemore has served in key administrative posts including
Chair of the School of Physical Sciences and Technologies, Interim
Vice President of Instruction, Interim Vice President of Student
Services, and Dean of Advanced Technology. Roquemore was granted
tenure at Irvine Valley College, where he taught geology from 1990
to 1997.
Roquemore, who has specialized in professional academic and research
management for nearly 22 years, says he plans to "work closely"
with the faculty and staff to continue to build a cohesive and thriving
college that embraces diversity and an interdisciplinary curriculum
within a collegial atmosphere.
"During the 12 years I've been a part of Irvine Valley, I
have seen it become one of Orange County's most innovative and successful
community colleges. We have a first-rate faculty, the cornerstone
any teaching institution, and I am privileged to be a part of this
dynamic and dedicated community," Roquemore adds.
"Dr. Roquemore has a very strong academic and administrative
record at our college, and we are delighted to have him in this
new role," said Chancellor Mathur. "His administrative
experience in institutional planning, and his background in developing
budgets, course offerings, and enrollment management programs will
serve this school, the District, and its students well."
Roquemore has a Ph.D in Geology and Geophysics from the University
of Nevada. He has authored or co-authored nearly 50 publications,
and he has over 14 years experience in higher education. Each year,
he leads students on geologic field studies to remote desert, mountain
or marine locations, and in his spare time he enjoys mountaineering,
wilderness biking and hiking.
"Glenn Roquemore is a respected scholar, teacher and administrator
who will build upon the excellence of IVC, and I look forward to
working with him in his new position," said Armando Ruiz, Vice
President of Student Affairs.
A permanent president is expected to be appointed by August 1,
2002.
