KID INVENTORS TO SUBMIT INGENIOUS GADGETS FOR INVENTION
COMPETITION AT IVC
WHAT: Over 300 young inventors from kindergarten through eighth-grade
will compete for cash prizes and ribbons at the 16th Annual Irvine Valley
College Foundation Astounding Inventions of the Future competition.
WHEN: Saturday, January 25, 2003 from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: Hart Gymnasium, Irvine Valley College, 5500 Irvine Center
Drive, Irvine, at the corner or Jeffrey Road and Irvine Center Drive. The public
is invited, admission and parking are free.
WHY: Student finalists representing 40 schools from Irvine, Tustin,
and Laguna Beach Unified School Districts will submit hand-crafted inventions
conceived and built specifically for the competition. The event includes special
entertainment, scientific, creative and educational activities for the whole
family. This year will include faculty science demonstrations, information
booths, and tours of the IVC campus. The Irvine Valley College Foundation
Astounding Inventions of the Future competition was conceived by the college in
1987 to promote creativity and interest in mathematics and science education
among the areas students. Award winners go on to compete at different levels of
state and national math and science invention competitions. Previous winners
have been featured guests on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
