Irvine Valley College Brings Holiday Food and Music to Disadvantaged Families
WHO: The Making Transfer Easy (MTE) program at Irvine Valley
College will provide food, clothing, gifts and entertainment for nearly 700
students and their families at Rio Vista Elementary School.
WHEN: Saturday, December 21, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Rio Vista Elementary School, 1451 N. California, San
Bernardino, CA 92411
WHAT: The MTE annual giving campaign brightens the holidays
for school children and their parents throughout Southern California with donations
from the students and staff at Irvine Valley College, community sponsors and
the Toys-For-Tots program. Now in its fourth year, MTE is part of the college’s
outreach program intended to provide information about the educational services
that are available to adults. MTE also provides community service projects,
leadership and personal development opportunities for students.
This year, MTE partnered with Rio Vista School to provide assistance to families
in one of San Bernardino’s poorest neighborhoods. More than 700 students
and their families are expected to take part in the program where, in addition
to food and gifts, they will be treated to a performance by one of Orange County’s
hottest R&B bands, BluePrint, whose members include community college professors
and local musicians who donate their time for charitable events. Band members
John Licitra and Clyde Phillips, both college instructors, see the Rio Vista
School holiday charity event as a way to bring the students, families and educational
institutions together for the benefit of all. Rio Vista School and the San Bernardino
School District are also providing assistance to the families.
