Wind Symphony To Perform Original Composition in Memory of
9/11
WHO: Ed Peffer, jazz director at IVC, conducts the Irvine
Valley College Wind Symphony in the premiere performance of his composition
“Elegy and Prayer,” a tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks.
WHAT: Professor Peffer will guest conduct the piece; other
works performed by the Wind Symphony include the Alexander Arutunian “Trumpet
Concerto” with soloist Bill Hackbarth; soloist; “Toccata”
by Girolamo Frescobaldi, arranged by Earl Slocum; “Irish Tune from County
Derry,” by Percy Grainger; and “Valdres, Norwegian March”
by Johannes Hanssen. Music Director, Dr. Stephen Rochford, will also conduct.

WHY: Peffer wrote “Elegy and Prayer” as a memorial
to the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Dr. Rochford describes it
as a “very moving, jazz/classical crossover work imbued with all the elements
of sadness, beauty, excitement, chaos, meditation, and American pride we have
experienced in the aftermath of that terrible day.“
