Congratulations to the women philanthropists of Charter 100, who will be among the honorees at the 2012 Orange County National Philanthropy Day luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Orange County on November 15. Approximately 1,000 people will attend the luncheon sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the OC Chapter of AFP.

The IVC Foundation nominated Charter 100 for its outstanding support of Irvine Valley College. “No other local organization has even come close to giving leadership, being mentors and providing assistance to IVC students over the last 10 years,” stated Richard H. Morley, executive director of the Irvine Valley College Foundation, who submitted the Charter 100 nomination.

Since 1995, this dedicated group of professional women has been supporting low-income students at the college. Charter 100 members established seven scholarships of up to $1,000 each in perpetuity for IVC students—Charter 100, Marilyn Foreman, Countess Pease Jeffries, Grace Everett Fulkerson, Lyle and Ethel Davis, Wyoma Hamilton and Dahlia Peterson scholarships. Six of these are fully funded endowments. All told, Charter 100 has donated more than a quarter of a million dollars to Irvine Valley College.

National Philanthropy Day (NPD) recognizes the tremendous impact philanthropy has on our society and honors the work of individuals, businesses, and organizations that are active in the philanthropic community. NPD was the brainchild of local philanthropist and attorney Doug Freeman. After five years of work and hundreds of letters, the idea gained support from a number of community organizations nationwide. In 1986 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day. Since then, in communities throughout the United States and Canada, people have joined together to honor the spirit of giving in their own regions.
