The IVC speech and debate team added to its record-breaking season with a First Place Sweepstakes award at the League Cool-Off Tournament, held at Saddleback College, April 28-29. Twenty-one colleges attended the championships designed for novice competitors. In additional to the first place trophy at the tournament, IVC scored enough points to catapult the team passed Mt Sac for third place in the year-long Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association sweepstakes.

Twenty-four IVC competitors took awards at the tournament. This is a good sign for next year’s squad since many of the students have indicated they will be returning to compete for IVC.

For the season, which started in September, this tournament brought the total number of students who won awards to 72.
