The Irvine Valley women's golf team has two players moving on to the State Championships.
Freshmen Leleaga Meredith and Cindy Dang qualified through the Southern California Regional Championships Sunday and Monday at the Alisal River Course in Solvang.
Meredith and Dang now move on to play at the state event next Monday and Tuesday at the Tracy Golf and Country Club in Tracy.
"I am very pleased with both girls and how they played," IVC Coach Ben Burnett said. "They both really deserve it."
Meredith finished a solid fourth overall at the two-day regionals with a score of 153. She was just three shots out of second place.
Iris Chung of Mt. San Jacinto was the medalist at 147. Sadye Busby of Palomar came in second at 150 and Fanny Johansson was third at 151.
Meredith shot 78 on the first day and followed that up with a score of 75 on Monday.
Meredith, who finished second in scoring average in the Orange Empire Conference this season, earned all-Southern California Regional honors for her work at the event.
The top six players were named to the all-So. Cal. Regional team.
Dang, who like Meredith was a first team all-Orange Empire Conference player, finished tied for seventh at the regionals.
She shot 80 on the first day and ended up with a score of 77 on Monday.
Irvine Valley won the state team title last year, which was the program's second ever state championship. The squad went undefeated during the 2012 campaign.
