Irvine Valley women's freshman golfer Leleaga Meredith missed tying for medalist honors on the tough Champions Course side of the Morongo Golf Course in Beaumont by one stroke on Monday at an Orange Empire Conference match.

Meredith's score of 80 was just one stroke behind the only score posted in the 70's on the day. That was turned in by Palomar's Jen Goh.

The Champions Course featured 5,948 yards of changing elevations and slick greens.

Irvine Valley finished with a record of 4-3 on the day, taking wins against College of the Desert, Mt. San Jacinto, Cuyamaca and Mt. San Antonio and losing to Palomar, Fullerton and Saddleback.

The Lasers actually tied with Saddleback with a four-player team score of 357, but lost on the fifth-player tiebreaker.

Palomar went 7-0 on the day with a team score of 335 and Fullerton was second at 6-1 with a team score of 350.

Meredith had three birdies, seven pars, five bogeys and three double bogeys for her score of 80.

Irvine Valley's second finisher was freshman Cindy Dang. She had two birdies, four pars, six bogeys, five double bogeys and a triple bogey to score 89.

Freshman Nayoung Kim had five pars, eight bogeys, four double bogeys and a triple bogey to score 89.

Kimberly Richardson rounded out the team scoring with a 97.  Kimberly's round featured a run of five straight pars on the front nine.

Irvine Valley is currently in fifth place in the conference standings with a record of 21-21.

It is two wins behind fourth-place College of the Desert (23-19).

"We are improving and plan to challenge College of the Desert for fourth place position in our conference," Coach Ben Burnett said.

The top four teams from the conference are expected to advance to the Southern California Regionals.

The next match is hosted by Saddleback, Wednesday at Arroyo Trabuco. Tee off is at 10:30 p.m.
