Irvine Valley men's basketball coach Jerry Hernandez announced that Kirill Sergeyev has signed to play at NAIA William Jessup University in Rocklin.
The local product out of Irvine High finished a solid freshman season for the Lasers in 2011-12.
He will have three seasons to play at William Jessup, which competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
"He is a post that has talent and can score," Hernandez said. "Those guys are hard to come by. We would have loved to have Kirill for another year, but he was ready to move on."
Sergeyev, a 6-7 forward, averaged 5.0 points and 3.5 rebounds as the primary back-up post player for Irvine Valley this past season.
"Kirill showed flashes for us this year and will continue to get better," Hernandez said.
Sergeyev red-shirted at Irvine Valley during the 2010-11 year.
Before that he was a standout player at Irvine High. He was named first team all-league, all-city and his team's MVP his junior and senior seasons. He averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds a game as a senior.
Sergeyev is headed to a William Jessup program that finished with a record of 12-17 overall and 6-6 in the CCAA.
He will get to take on IVC teammate Christian Scott in CCAA games. Scott signed with Cal Maritime.
