Former Irvine Valley hurler Robert Purpura has joined the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a Class A Advanced minor league team with the Los Angeles Dodgers.Robert Purpura

Purpura spent all of 2012 in Extended Spring Training before joining the Quakes.

So far in three games, including pitching Wednesday night, Purpura has thrown five scoreless innings in relief and nabbed two wins. He's given up just three hits in the five innings with two strikeouts.

Last year, in two stops with Dodgers minor league affiliates, Purpura was 2-1 in 16 games. He had a 3.63 ERA in 22 1/3 innings pitched and had 22 strikeouts.

Purpura played at Irvine Valley during the 2007-08 seasons. He was a part of Irvine Valley's special 2008 team that reached the Super Regionals and finished with a record of 32-17 overall.

Purpura had a record of 3-8 on that squad with a 4.61 ERA. He made 23 appearances, which was second best on the team and pitched 84.0 innings with 63 strikeouts.

In 2007, Purpura had a 6-4 record and 6.67 ERA for Irvine Valley's team that had a record of 22-22 overall.

 

He moved on from Irvine Valley and was an all-conference player for Vanguard University.
