The Irvine Valley women's tennis team got its 2012 season off to a great start.
The Lasers didn't drop a match in beating San Diego Mesa, 9-0, in a nonconference match at home on Thursday afternoon.
IVC won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophomore returner Megan Miller defeated Gabie Fortunato, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Freshman Alyssa Harper beat Chika Yanai, 7-6, 6-2, at the second singles spot. Freshman Corliss Mejia defeated Denise Romero, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.
Sophomore returner Alyssa Pekarcik beat Layla Zbiden, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 4 singles and sophomore Ivette Winder earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Mariah Albright at the fifth singles spot for the Lasers.
San Diego Mesa defaulted at No. 6 singles.
Irvine Valley's top doubles team of Miller and Harper won, 8-3, and the No. 2 team of Mejia and Pekarcik had an easy 8-0 victory. IVC picked up a default win at No. 3 doubles.
Irvine Valley plays again next Thursday, hosting El Camino at 2 p.m.
