The Irvine Valley women's tennis team, which finished tied for second in the Orange Empire Conference, was left out of the Southern California Regional team playoffs.

Saddleback, which went undefeated to win the conference title, advanced as did the team IVC tied with for second place - Riverside.

Each conference champion automatically makes the eight-team regional field.

IVC was hoping to get a wild card berth.

Four teams were vying for three open spots. The Lasers were the team not picked.

"Despite our results of coming the closest of any team that played Saddleback we were aced," IVC Coach Joan Meissenburg said. Irvine Valley lost to conference champion Saddleback, 5-4, both times this season.

Meissenburg pointed out that Riverside, which made the playoffs, lost to Saddleback, 7-2, and, 8-1, this season.

Irvine Valley finished with a record of 10-5 overall. Individual players will continue to compete for IVC at regionals, the Ojai Tournament and possibly the state tourney.
