Baseball team falls just short at Southwestern

Irvine Valley's baseball team lost a tough 4-2 non-conference game at Southwestern on Thursday.

IVC had its chances in the ballgame.

Mickey Dunleavy was a hard luck loser for the Lasers, dropping his record to 1-1 on tyhe year.

With the loss IVC slipped to 2-2 on the season.

IVC trailed, 3-1, in the sixth inning, but had its opportunities to get back in it.

Sophomore third baseman Sean Guite started with a single. Then freshman Ryan Wagner reached on an error. Freshman Sam Kim drilled a ball that hit the top of the fence.

Guite scored, but Wagner was thrown out at third. Then Kim was backpicked and thrown out at second base.

IVC never really threatened again after that.

The Lasers finished with just five hits on the day.

Freshman Tyler Acevedo, sophomore outfielder Bryce Hara, Guite, Kim and freshman Danny Jimenez each had a hit for the Lasers.

IVC hosts LA Mission on Friday at 2 p.m. and then hosts Victor Valley on Saturday at noon.
