Women's badminton team to host Pasadena in team final

Vimla PhongasavithasThe Irvine Valley women's badminton team earned the Orange Empire Conference title last Friday with a 13-8 win at San Diego City.

The Lasers went undefeated in conference play and improved their record to 9-0 overall.

Irvine Valley will now play in the Southern California Team Championship.

The Lasers are hosting the event and will take on South Coast Conference champion Pasadena City on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Pasadena City has a record of 13-1 overall.

The one loss came last month on a trip to Northern California where DeAnza knocked off the Lancers, 11-10.

Pasadena City is the three-time defending South Coast Conference champion and won last year's Southern California title, which was its first ever.

It lost in the state final to City College of San Francisco, 11-10.

This year's Pasadena City team is led byJessica Nguyen-Le and Jewy Liang.

Irvine Valley counters with sophomore standouts Thuy Hoang and Vimla Phongasavithas. Hoang and Phongasavithas are each undefeated in singles in dual matches this season.
