Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does IVC qualify as a 501(c)(3)?
A: IVC, part of the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD), is a tax-exempt organization; however, it is not tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code. As a public community college district, SOCCCD legally is a political subdivision of the State of California, organized under the state's Education Code. The district is a government agency. Government agencies are tax free and not required to have a tax exempt status under section 501(c)(3). IVC uses the tax ID number of the district.
While the college and the district are government entities, the IVC Foundation is designated as a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The IVC Foundation has its own unique tax ID number. Contact the IVC Foundation director for further information.
Always check the agency guidelines to confirm the College’s eligibility to apply for funding.
