Irvine Valley College Alumnus Visits Rome

Irvine City Manager Sean Joyce recently travelled to Rome on vacation. What does someone wear on a trip such as this? Well, if you are last year’s Alumnus of the Year from Irvine Valley College, you wear a shirt with your alma mater on it to let everyone know where you started your college education.

A 21-year resident of Irvine and product of the Irvine Unified School District, Sean attended Vista Verde Elementary and Venado Middle schools in their respective inaugural years and graduated from Irvine High School. He started his college education at Irvine Valley College and then transferred to Cal State Fullerton where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration.

Sean was appointed Irvine’s fourth City Manager in January 2006. As chief executive officer of this community of 209,000, Sean oversees a staff of more than 1,100 full- and part-time employees. He also prepares and manages an annual budget of approximately $140 million that funds a wide range of municipal services and physical improvements to the City’s facilities and infrastructure.

Sean, his wife, Veronica, and their daughter, Madeline reside in Irvine.
