In recognition of Wing Lam’s debut as a symphony conductor, President Glenn Roquemore designated October 26, 2005 as Wing Lam Day at Irvine Valley College.
“Wow! This is great,” said Wing Lam. “I have never had a day named after me. Irvine Valley College is a great place to get a first-rate education, and I am flattered that such an outstanding college would consider me worthy of such an honor.”
In Wing’s honor, the Irvine Valley College Foundation hosted a special reception prior to the concert at the Chinatown Restaurant. Guests at the reception were personally greeted by President Glenn Roquemore and IVC Foundation Chairman Carol Tagayun.
Special guests included: Board President David Lang; Trustee Marcia Milchiker; Dr. John R. Gibson , senior vice president of global development at Allergan; Patrick Strader from Starpointe Ventures; Harlan Arita from The Irvine Company; Shari Gunn, vice president at Primedia Digital Automotive; Kaz Kishimoto, owner of Kishimoto Architects; and Richard Porras, senior executive at SBC.
And the surfing community was represented by Liam Ferguson, associate publisher of TransWorld Surf Magazine; Vipe Desai, public relations guru and owner of Laguna Beach-based Propaganda Headquarters; and Mike Madlener, former world-class surfer.
