About
the Emeritus Institute
The Emeritus Institute program affirms the importance of intellectual
activity, critical thinking and creative expression for older adults.
The curriculum challenges participants to formulate relationships between
past experiences and new ideas and to keep current in all academic areas.
Courses are developed to stimulate participants' intellectual and personal
growth and to benefit their daily lives-personally, socially, culturally,
economically and environmentally. And while these courses meet the college's
academic standards, they are not degree applicable.
The Emeritus Institute serves nearly 5,000 students and offers over 200
classes yearly-most of them free-at various community sites (see "Class
Locations"). Classes are selected in response to student input and
in collaboration with faculty, college administration and on-site staff.
