Purpose
The Learning Disabilities Program is designed to assist students who have average to above average potential for learning but are not achieving their educational goals because of difficulties in study skills or basic skills such as reading, writing, spelling, or math. The goal of the program is to provide services and accommodations which allow students successful transition into mainstream college classes.

Learning Disabilities
Typical learning disabilities include difficulties in a specific area such as reading comprehension, written expression, verbal expression, spelling, math, vocabulary, memory, auditory discrimination, visual discrimination, or any combination of the above.

Referral
Students may be referred to the program by an instructor, counselor, or community agency, or they may refer themselves. Each student will receive an initial interview and then be assessed individually by the Learning Disabilities Specialist.

How Do You Qualify?
You must:
- Be enrolled in at least one course at Irvine Valley College
- Have a verified disability
- Be unable to fully benefit from regular programs and services offered by the college due to your limitation
- We invite you to come into DSP&S office which provides services and instruction to accommodate your disability limitation.

Documentation
The following are required by the state Title V regulations in order for you to receive DSP&S services.
- A signed application for services (available from the DSP&S office)
- A medical release form
- Verification of disability
- Student Education and Academic Plan (developed with your DSP&S counselor)
