Goal and Primary Function of DSP&S
The goal of Disabled Students Program and Services (DSP&S) at Irvine Valley College is to provide effective assistance to all students with disabilities so they can achieve academic success. Whether the student has a physical, communicative, learning or psychological disability, the program functions primarily to accommodate the disability, enabling each individual to participate fully in the educational experience at the college.

How to Qualify
- Be enrolled at Irvine Valley College
- Have a verified disability
- Be unable to fully benefit from regular programs and services offered by the college due to disability
- Need and request the services or instruction available through DSP&S in order to receive accommodations

Documentation
The following are required by the state Title V regulations in order for you to receive DSP&S services:
- A signed application for services (available from the DSP&S office)
- A medical release form
- Verification of disability
- Student Education Plan (developed with a DSP&S counselor)

Programs & Courses
Irvine Valley College offers a number of special programs and courses to ensure that students can make a successful transition into the general college curriculum. Participation in the DSP&S program is voluntary.
Learning Disabilities Program
Assist students in developing an academic foundation necessary before enrolling in the regular college curriculum. Students must be assessed and qualified prior to enrollment.
Adapted Physical Education Courses
Provide students who have a physical limitation the opportunity to participate in a college exercise and health-related physical fitness program.
Adapted Computer Courses
Introduce students to the latest technological innovations and software designed to accommodate specific disabilities. Help ensure access for students who would like to use computers and enroll in regular computer classes.
