Program Description:
Digital Media Art (DMA) is an academic program under the Art Department in the School of Fine Arts at Irvine Valley College. The goal of the program is to provide students with the wide array of fundamentals in digital media. Students will be encouraged to pursue various career pathways relating to digital media including Graphic Design.
Curriculum: The present Digital Media Art curriculum includes courses in graphic design, typography, digital 2D design and color theory, and digital photography as well as a cooperative work experience course which allows students to intern in the field. Studio courses teach students to expand both their basic design and digital design skills and develop a portfolio in preparation for working in the industry or transferring to a four-year college or university. All courses in the curriculum are intended to develop the student’s understanding and appreciation of the artist’s technical and aesthetic concerns; an awareness of the forces that continually reshape the digital media field; and familiarity with the career opportunities and work environments to digital media artists. The career opportunities in the field of Digital Media Art is rapidly growing and evolving. A digital media art major at IVC may choose to focus on a transfer preparation tract to a four-year institution. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to earn a Certificate or an Associate in Arts Degree, which will prepare the student to begin a career in digital media including:
