Irvine Valley College Cheerleading is a co-ed cheerleading squad. The cheerleaders perform at various athletic home games which includes sideline and halftime performances. Their primary mission is to get the crowd involved for true home advantage. The team performs stunts, tumbling, dances, jumps and cheers. The goal of the Irvine Valley Cheerleading Squad is to encourage excellent sportsmanship and to provide spirit and pride during athletic performances. The team also promotes the values and represents Irvine Valley College at all times. A high level of commitment to the team and College is expected. It is also necessary to remain in good academic standing at IVC. We want you to do well and will help you in attaining that goal . IMPORTANT DATES (MARK YOUR CALENDAR)
- Friday, September 12th 7:00pm - 8:00pm – Mandatory Informative Meeting (Student Lounge, Upstairs in Student Services Center)
- Saturday, September 13th 9:00am - 3:00pm – Tryouts (Field located between PAC and BST)
- TIME REQUIREMENTS: The IVC Cheerleaders practice Sundays from 6-9pm and Wednesdays 7-9pm. Be sure you work your schedule around these time commitments prior to tryouts.
HOW TO PREPARE
First and foremost mark your calendar for Friday, September 12th 2008 for 7-8pm. There will be an informative meeting which will provide you with specific details outlining the IVC Cheereleading program, costs, commitment, tryouts, camp, etc. Next, make sure you are in top physical condition. Our cheerleading team members lift weights and regularly participate in cardiovascular workouts. This will not only improve your overall talent, it will also insure your safety and decrease the risk of injury.
TRYOUT PROCEDURE
The purpose of tryouts is to pick the most talented athletes who give the best representation of Irvine Valley College. The tryout process will aide the coaching staff in choosing the best all around cheerleading squad for Irvine Valley College.
Day 1 – Registration & Informative Meeting
Registration - Everyone who is interested in participating in tryouts must attend the informational meeting on the first day of tryouts. This meeting is to give you specific information about the program and to insure that everyone is aware of the safety guidelines prior to tryouts. Meeting will be held on Friday, September 12th from 7-8pm in the student lounge located on the second flood in the Student Services Center. If you are unable to attend the informative meeting, be sure to email Coach Kim at ivc.cheer@hotmail.com for cheerleading details.
Day 2 – Material & Technical Clinic + Tryout
Athletes will meet and learn collegiate material. This portion of tryouts will include jumps, cheers, fight song and stunting. Clinic will be held on Saturday, September 13th from 9am-3pm on the field between the Performing Arts Center (PAC) and the Business & Technology Center (BTC).
At the final hour of tryouts, athletes will demonstrate material taught at the tryout clinic which includes: toe touch, cheers, fight song and stunts. A judging panel will be utilized; however the coaching staff/administration will choose the teams using the judges' scores as a guideline. The coaching staff/administration will select the teams that will work best together and perform at the most elite level.
Final Tryout time will be assigned on Day 2 of tryouts.
**Final team will be posted on this day 1 hour after tryout process as been completed.
GENERAL INFORMATION
- Incoming freshmen or transfer students are welcomed to tryout.
- Students must furnish a copy of a valid IVC student ID
- Students must enroll in the Life Fitness Center (PE 192) for .5 units (Fall 08 Catalog: 61520, 61530, 61535 or 65250 - page 48)
- Applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Students must purchase an ASIVC sticker per semester
- Students must clear their schedules of work, classes or other time commitments for practice on the following days (Sundays 6-9pm and Wednesdays 7-9pm)
- Please print and fill out a copy of the cheerleading try out application/medical release waiver.
Cheer tryout attire for final tryout day includes:
For males – shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes. Males are expected to come to final tryouts clean shaven (facial hair is acceptable but must be well groomed).
For Females – shorts, t-shirt, & tennis shoes. Females are expected to come to final tryouts with hair out of the face.
There is no need to go out and spend large amounts of money on these items. The collegiate look is an important part of the Irvine Valley College Cheer program so consider clothing that is appropriate and appealing. ** Absolutely no jewelry (any piercings need to be removed or taped). Shoes must be suitable for stunting. No denim.

• Stunting: Hands (video), pop cradle
• Stunting: Extension (video), pop cradle
• Stunting: Liberty, pop cradle
• Transitional stunt (video) or twist/full down **
Men*
• Irvine Valley College Student/Acceptance
• 2.0 GPA
• ASIVC Sticker
• Enrolled in PE 192 (.5 unit)
• Strong Athletic Ability
*Although we strongly recommend that athletes can meet these requirements, we also look for potential that we can develop. Previous cheerleading and gymnastics experience isn't required, but it obviously doesn't hurt!
**An example of a transition stunt: cradle reload to extension, retake to heel stretch. BE CREATIVE!!!
WHO CAN TRYOUT FOR IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE CHEERLEADING?
All individuals who meet the requirements are eligible to tryout. Incoming freshmen as well as current students may tryout for the squad. Be sure your schedule is free of work, class and other time commitments on Sundays 6-9pm and Wednesdays 7-9pm.
