The certificates and degrees in this discipline encompass a broad area of study, including computer operating systems, software applications, and networking and internetworking technologies. Courses are designed to prepare students for immediate employment, professional careers, and/or transfer.

Students may take individual courses to gain expertise in specific areas, or may take courses to earn a Certificate of Proficiency, a Certificate of Achievement, or an Associate of Science degree.


Digital Graphics Application Certificate of Proficiency

This program is intended for the student who wants a foundation in and exposure to a variety of digital graphic applications. Students take introductory classes in digital scanning, image editing and illustration followed by courses that integrate these applications or extend them into other areas of exploration such as 2D animation, motion graphics, 3D animation, digital sound and video, and authoring tools for multimedia.

Career Options
Prepares students for an entry-level position as a Media Applications Specialist in the fields of advertising, web-site production, digital photography and graphic illustration.


Digital Publishing Certificate of Proficiency

Introduces students to the business and graphic applications necessary to publish in a changing print world. The program prepares the student in page layout for print publishing, creating and distributing portable documents (PDFs), and web publishing using visual layout tools.

Career Options
Completion of the certificate enhances the opportunity for entry-level positions in advertising, printing, web publishing, or pre-press production.


Spreadsheets Certificate of Proficiency

Introduces students to the use of the computer and business application software. Students learn to use various software applications including spreadsheet software to create documents common to today’s business environment.

Completion of this certificate enhances the opportunity for entry-level positions as clerical workers, office assistants, or data entry in a business office environment.


Web Page Authoring Certificate of Proficiency

Students learn the techniques to create animation, graphics, and interactivity for web page development. The program includes introductory classes in web page authoring followed by courses that show how to create 2D animated graphics and interactivity for web pages; how to extend animation and interactivity through scripting; and how to analyze web page case studies for their techniques and implementation.

Career Options
Prepares students for entry-level positions as a graphic illustrator/designer for a web production company.


Administrative Assistant/Word Processing Certificate of Achievement

Introduces students to the use of computers and business applications software. Students learn to use various software applications, including word processing software, to create documents of varying sophistication common in today's business office.

Desktop Publishing Emphasis Certificate of Achievement

This program is designed for those wishing to develop expertise in applications used in the design and layout of print publications.

Local Area Networks (LAN) - Cisco Emphasis Certificate of Achievement

As more companies implement LANs and require that these LANs become interconnected, the demand for technical support personnel will rise. While this is a very challenging career field, IVC offers hands-on experience during and after class, certified instructors with real-world experience and a broad offering of classes which provide an excellent foundation for learning. 

The Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) is one of the most demanded certifications in networking.  Cisco has designed a four-semester program which leads to this certification.  Students may cover the entire track at IVC over four semesters; or they may take the college's accelerated program, completing two semesters' worth of materials in one semester, in order to acquire the CCNA in one academic year.

Career Options

A student who obtains a LAN certificate in Cisco networking will have the technical skills and knowledge necessary for an entry-level position in the networking industry.  Possible positions include network administrator, system integrator or network support staff.


Digital Media Technologies Certificate of Achievement

This program prepares the student to develop a digital presence for businesses, organizations, and individuals in communication, marketing and data management through the development of computer based digital media, CD-ROM, Web site or other electronic delivery. You will learn how to reach an audience and communicate ideas.

Career Options
Prepares individuals for employment as an entry level media specialist in the fields of advertising, web site production, prepress publication, and various areas of the entertainment industry.


Web Authoring Certificate of Achievement

IVC's Certificate in Web Authoring prepares students to develop a web site utilizing basic and advanced software skills. Students learn to develop a mission and goals for the web site and how to provide promotion and maintenance for the site.

Career Options
Employment possibilities include entry-level positions in web management, web-design, or web authoring. In addition, these courses assist workers currently in the field to maintain state-of-the-art skills.
