Article I - Name of
Organization
Article II Purpose
of Organization
IVC Business Leaders Society is affiliated with
the national fraternity Delta Epsilon Chi (DLX), which is a college
division of National DECA Inc. Both organizations create close ties
with the business community, providing essential opportunities for
members and an appreciation of the American free enterprise system.
Participation in the highest quality of competitive events, and
programming available to post-secondary students is also a key
factor to our personal career development.
Our objective consists of the following:
To encourage business activity that demonstrates civic, social, and
moral responsibility;
To nurture competent, entrepreneurial, self-reliant cooperative
leadership in all business fields; To foster high ethical standards
in business;
To recognize the importance of career education and promote a
willingness to use the training facilities provided by competitive
events and conferences to continually improve skills and knowledge;
To help students gain an awareness of the local business community;
To inform students about the business programs offered at different
colleges;
To assist students in making informative career decisions in all
business fields;
To search effective and career-oriented internship programs for
students;
To inform students about what is happening in business
worldwide.
Article III
Membership
Membership in this organization is available to
all IVC students and will not be restricted on the basis of age,
disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, or religion.
IVC Business Leaders Society membership will be
based on a prospective members desire to learn and participate in
our activities. As a member of IVC Business Leaders Society, one is
required to be a part- or full time student at IVC, regularly
attend organization meetings (3 absences per semester), pay dues,
have an IVC associated student body card, actively support
organization projects, and most importantly be dedicated to the
organization as a whole.
Article IV Officers
Election of executive officers and directors
will begin by nomination and an informal speech followed by a
majority vote (51%) from general membership, of which at least 2/3
must be present to have a quorum. If a candidate fails to receive a
majority of votes, a run off election will be held within the top
two candidates that received the most votes. The term of office will
be one semester. New executive officers directors will be elected at
the end of the semester for the subsequent semester.
Executive Committee
President:
Call all meetings to order and preside over them;
Represent organization on campus;
Form committees and special duties when needed;
Ensure that the organization is operating in conformity with the
standards set forth by Irvine Valley College and the Inter-Club
Council;
Ensure no member be denied his/her rights of membership;
Prepare meeting agendas;
Maintain communication with organization adviser;
Appoint officers to their positions when there are special
circumstances and emergency situations.
Vice-president:
Preside over meetings in the absence of the President;
Facilitate communication among members;
Schedule meetings/events with appropriate college offices;
Manage organization promotion and publicity of events;
Direct leadership and competitive events.
Secretary:
Maintain an accurate record of all organization meetings;
Post agendas and minutes for IVC student body within 48 hours after
regular membership or leadership meetings;
Maintain role call at meetings;
Maintain membership directory;
Help create and distribute club memos and announcements.
Treasurer:
Maintain accurate record of organization transactions;
Collect dues & coordinate State/National Membership;
Develop organization monthly budget and present it to members;
Coordinate fundraising events;
Solicit additional funding if needed from the Student Government
Association in conjunction with the President;
Directors
Program Director:
Schedule events and guest speakers to educate members about career
pathways and opportunities in business;
Assist with the planning and organizing of all events/activities.
Career/Internship Director:
Coordinate internship opportunities with local businesses;
Be a liaison between members and the local business community;
Provide members with information about different career pathways in
business;
Inform members about all available internship opportunities.
Activities Director:
Organize all events/activities;
Coordinate banquet at the end of the semester;
Arrange social events;
Create a calendar of events for each month.
Public Relations Director:
Inform IVC student body about upcoming organization events;
Develop and post all fliers/posters/news items;
Contact all appropriate media to inform about events;
Maintain and update the clubs website;
Assist with planning and organizing events/activities.
Other
Club Representative:
Represent Delta Epsilon Chi at all IVC Inter-Club Council Meetings;
Provide members with information given at Inter-Club Council
Meetings;
Attend all Inter-Club Council activities.
International and Local Liaison:
Provide members with international and local business related news
updates.
Article V - Meetings
The organization shall hold regular (biweekly)
meetings during the academic term except holidays, examination
periods or other events that would cause meeting times to be
impractical. Attendance at organization meetings is expected. If a
member must miss a meeting, correspondence with the secretary is
appreciated. A quorum shall consist of 2/3 of the membership.
Article VI Amendments
Amendments to this constitution must be
submitted in writing at a regular meeting of the organization.
Aforementioned amendment(s) will be voted on at a subsequent
meeting. In order to adopt the amendment, a vote of 2/3 of the
general membership is necessary.
Article X Ratification
This constitution shall become effective upon
approval by a 2/3 vote of the membership, the Inter-Club Council and
the Dean of Student Affairs.
