Women's volleyball team sweeps again

Behind sophomore outside hitter Katie Wilkerson's 24 kills and .543 hitting percentage, the Irvine Valley women's volleyball team swept its third opponent in a row, beating Riverside, 28-26, 25-14, 25-21, Wednesday night at Riverside.
Wilkerson's 24 kills were a season-high, topping the 18 she had in a four-game win over Riverside on Oct. 2 at Irvine Valley. Wilkerson was set 35 times Wednesday night and committed just five hitting errors. She also added nine digs.
Freshman Ellie Wiekamp added 11 kills and hit .426 and freshman Hillary Crone had nine kills and hit .400 for the Lasers, who improved their record to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in conference.
Irvine Valley hit an impressive .419 as a team thanks to the well set game by sophomore Allie Hammer. Hammer finished with 46 assists and also had nine digs and two blocks
Sophomore Nichole May paced the team in digs with 13.
Irvine Valley, which is ranked sixth in the state, plays at Fullerton on Friday at 6 p.m. The Lasers are home again next Wednesday against Saddleback at 6 p.m.
