Women's volleyball team gets rid of Golden West

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team recorded its second sweep of the week and stayed tied atop the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 victory Friday night over Golden West at home.
The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in conference. The Lasers were ranked sixth in the last state poll.
After losing to Orange Coast in five games last Friday, IVC dominated Santa Ana (25-20, 25-14, 25-16) and then Golden West.
IVC hit .321 as a team in the victory over Golden West Friday night. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Wilkerson had one of her best matches of the season with 15 kills and a .583 hitting percentage (15-1-24). She also added seven digs and three aces.
Freshman Hillary Crone was also impressive, hitting .727 with eight kills and no errors. Sophomore middle blockers Caitlin Segert and Carly Loucks each added six kills.
Sophomore libero Nichole May finished with team highs in digs (18) and aces (five).
And sophomore setter Allie Hammer ran the offense and finished with 32 assists.
IVC starts the second round of conference action next Wednesday, playing at Riverside at 6 p.m.
