Dig Pink Volleyball Project for Breast Cancer Awareness Oct. 2 at IVC
Sep 24, 2009
The Irvine Valley athletic department will be hosting a special event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the women's volleyball team's first Orange Empire Conference match in October.
The Dig Pink Volleyball Project for Breat Cancer Awareness will be held Friday, Oct. 2 in IVC's Hart Gymnasium when the Lasers take on Riverside at 6 p.m.
Doors open for the event at 5 p.m.
"In an attempt to connect to our community and teach our student-athletes a valuable lesson about service, we conceived this event," IVC Dean and Athletic Director Keith Shackleford said. "It was prompted by an e-mail we received from the Dig Pink Foundation, which uses volleyball at all levels to increase public awareness of the issues surrounding the disease and attempts to find a cure."
The gesture was quickly supported by the gracious donations of Asics, and by the girls volleyball team at Crean Lutheran South High who will assist in the event.
Plese join Irvine Valley that evening in support of finding a cure. All proceeds will be donated to breat cancer research.
Free T-shirts to fans in attendance, a raffle and an auction will be part of the evenings fundraising. Admission to the match is $5.
