Women's volleyball team hosts Palomar tonight

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team plays its first home match of the season Friday night, hosting Palomar at 5 p.m.
Palomar enters the match with a record of 1-1 overall. The Comets opened with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-15 victory over San Bernardino Valley and then lost to IVC conference rival Fullerton, 25-21, 25-11, 25-15, last Friday.
Shelley Morton had six kills and four aces and Cahsel White finished with six kills in the victory over San Bernardino. Morton led the way in the loss to Fullerton with 12 kills.
Palomar won the Pacific Coast Conference last season and finished with a record of 21-6 overall.
All-conference setter Aimee Bird returns to lead the Comets this year.
Irvine Valley won its lone match so far this season, beating College of the Canyons on the road, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21, on Sept. 2.
IVC rallied back from an 11-2 deficit to win the second game.
Irvine Valley had three players with at least 10 kills in the contest. Ellie Wiekamp led the way with 16 kills. She also added six digs.
Katie Wilkerson and Hillary Crane both finished with 10 kills. Sasha Kornilova chipped in four kills and three aces. Caitlin Segert ended with a team-high four block assists.
Nichole May, a returning first team all-Orange Empire Conference player, had 10 digs and Alyssa Swatek contributed six digs. Allie Hammer, another first team all-conference player last season, finished with 38 assists and five digs.
