Women's volleyball team wraps up conference title
Nov 14, 2008
The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team made some history Friday night.
The Lasers won their second straight Orange Empire Conference title with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 win over Santa Ana at Concordia University.
It is the first time in program history that Irvine Valley has captured back-to-back conference titles.
"The players have done an outstanding job of improving and are looking forward to carrying another strong effort into our final conference match," IVC coach Tom Pestolesi said.
The win assured the Lasers, who have a record of 15-5 overall and 11-2 in conference, of at least a share of the title. They are one match up on Fullerton with one to play. A win next Wednesday at Saddleback would give Irvine Valley the title outright.
Freshman outside hitter Casey Williams led the way for the Lasers with 10 kills and two solo blocks in the match, which was played at Concordia because of a men's basketball tournament that is going on at IVC this weekend.
Sophomore Camryn Torromeo chipped in with two kills, five digs and three assists. And freshman middle blocker Kelsey Hall had six kills and two block assists. IVC, which is ranked sixth in the state, finishes up the regular season next Wednesday at Saddleback at 6 p.m.
