Men's volleyball coach Tom Pestolesi on Channel 4 News
Aug 14, 2008
Irvine Valley College men's and women's volleyball coach Tom Pestolesi was interviewed by NBC Channel 4 reporter Patrick Healy earlier this week.
In the interview, which was shown on local news after the night's Olympic coverage, Pestolesi shared several stories about volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, who is a former assistant coach at Irvine Valley College.
Pestolesi has known May for many years. He was her volleyball coach and teacher at Newport Harbor High and continues to stay in close contact with her.
In fact, before May-Treanor left for Beijing, Pestolesi had the opportunity to work out with Misty and her Olympic teammate Kerri Walsh, along with Olympic great and beach volleyball legend Karch Kiraly.
“Misty is at the top of her game,” Pestolesi said. “She’s in the best shape of her life, and she reminded me of that several times during our workout.”
Patrick Healy has been a reporter on NBC 4's 11 p.m. newscast since April, 1984, making him the dean of LA's nightside reporters.
Pestolesi led the IVC men's volleyball team to its second straight state title last season. He also guided the women's volleyball team to one of its best ever seasons last year. The team was ranked No. 1 in the state for nearly two months and made another trip to the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
The 2008 Laser women's volleyball team begins its season next weekend in a scrimmage tournament at Cuesta.
