Women's volleyball team improves to 19-0
Nov 07, 2007

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team had little trouble sweeping Saddleback Wednesday night in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road.

The Lasers, who are the top-ranked team in the state, got 19 kills and 17 digs from sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Pavlik, 14 kills from freshman outside hittter Mari Guadagnini and 13 kills from sophomore middle blocker Jessica Flood in recording a 30-12, 30-17, 30-18 victory.

The 19 kills by Pavlik gave her 376 for the season, which is just 10 short of the school record for most kills in a season. The record was set last season by Natalie Dittrick with 386. Pavlik already sits seventh on the all-time list for a season in digs with 237 and fourth all-time for a season in aces with 47.

The win improved IVC's record to 19-0 overall and 11-0 in conference. The 19 wins ties the record for most in a season at Irvine Valley. The 2003 team finished with 19.

It was the Lasers' 13th three-game sweep in 19 matches this season.

Irvine Valley also got seven kills from freshman middle blocker Katie Pascoe, nine digs, six kills and four aces from freshman outside hitter Camryn Torromeo and 50 assists from sophomore setter Kelly Keating.

The Lasers will go for their 20th win of the season on Friday when they host Cypress in a conference match at 6 p.m.

It is sophomore night for the Lasers and sophomores Chelsea Pavlik, Jessica Flood, Brooke Bryant and Kelly Keating will be honored.

Bryant and Keating are two years players for the Lasers.

IVC finishes the regular season next Wednesday at Orange Coast, which the Lasers defeated in four games earlier this year.

The Southern California Regional Playoffs are set to start for IVC on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at home. The opponent will be determined later next week.
